It was quite a revelation reading Pierre Trudeau’s book, ‘MEMOIRS.’ Throughout many pages there is the interplay about the frustrations related to bringing the constitution home and the difficulties working with a number of premiers and how ‘provincial’ they could be! One ponders, given some of the ‘signs of the times’ with public education and ‘all the politics’, perhaps someday, public education will become solely a federal responsibility in Canada. For the children and the nation, it might not be such a bad idea. Both might be better served.
Us ‘youngsters’ who still remember when the principal at our public school rang the bell by hand may recall such familiar music lyrics such as, “the bells are ringing for me and my gal.” If you play piano, guitar, or accordion, you might have fun singing the following:
The bills they’re BRINGING,
thanks a lot, what a PAL.
The words those stamped salutations are SINGING,
we all know so WELL.
So many married to their WORK.
Interest owing and GROWING,
the loan manager is our PAL.
Happily contemplating spending more ‘plastic’, OH WELL.
Economics CALCULATING for me and my SAL.
Guilt improving about little old me and YOU.
Thanks to all those calculated to help ‘little williams’, they’re BRINGING,
still delivered, by human HAND.
Love those bills to read, bank statements and oodles of flyers, what more do we NEED?
Five days a week are BRINGING,
for me and my (Now do your best Al Jolson voice, really drag it out) for me…and….my…… S….A…..L……
