I’ve driven a cab for BLACK TOP,
held chalk at SCHOOL.
Met Nat Bailey of WHITE SPOT,
loved swimming at Victoria’s old CRYSTAL POOL.
Was crazy about the baked custard pudding at the WHITE LUNCH
and thrilled with the lemon pie at SCOTT’S!
Always had a kind of a HUNCH,
I’d never belong to a golf club or own a couple of YACHTS.
There were odd jobs like inspecting pipes in NEW WESTMINSTER,
to check out any CRACKS.
Made twenty bucks an hour as a ‘pipe inspector’,
at BEST and paid plenty of INCOME TAX.
Worked at a radio station in CRANBROOK,
DJ’d the afternoon to midnight SHIFT.
I was almost as good there as being a short order COOK, flipping burgers,
like spinning records, never had that much of a GIFT.
Tried to sell display ads for a paper called The REVIEW.
My nickname became ‘two column inch Dan’,
not like that much more successful ‘full or at least half page CREW.
Oh well, you do what you CAN DO!
