‘Accordion’ to many, using many puns, idioms, metaphors, and similes can be for the birds. However, figures of speech have been known as being instrumental for squeezing out perspectives with hopefully a chuckle or two attached. I recently purchased a book at a thrift store ‘for a song’, and it was even signed! It was former Premier Bill Vander Zalm’s autobiography, ‘FOR THE PEOPLE’. Wow, what a read! More than six hundred pages, it sure opened my eyes a tad about provincial, political ‘goings on’ a few years ago. I couldn’t put it down! In this old bird’s opinion, every B.C. senior should read it.
If you grew up, or lived in Vancouver, and have memories of the West End, Kerrisdale, Commercial Drive, etc., there’s something magical about going for a walk in those neighborhoods to remember the old days. Take the skytrain, bus, whatever, jump out and just have a nostalgic look around. Maybe you can still find places where you lived. Many memories will likely pour back in. Here’s a bit of a new song that may reprise a thought or two.
