There are fortunately a few reminders of how it use to be if you go for a nostalgic stroll on a bus or two. Like Wasserman’s Beat a sign on a downtown street, close to where The Devonshire Hotel was brings back some good memories again…when you take this train. Walk to English Bay, there’s one of the first ‘skyscrapers’ still there, The Sylvia Hotel and even an old fashioned grocery store in the West End! Then hop a bus to Downtown Granville, try to imagine where the Aristocratic Restaurant use to be. How about recalling Foncie, the Street Photographer on Granville, Dunne and Rundle Cameras, The White Lunch, Mr. Mike’s Steaks for $1.19 (with all the trimmings), and the Grovesnor Hotel (just around the corner) and the radio personalities who worked at the C.J.O.R. studios in the basement.
Thank heaven there are still a few good memories floating about in Vancouver after you take this train!
