Perhaps you remember an occasional winter up here on the western coast the snow actually remained for quite a while. As kids jumping on your sled was a cherished activity for days on end. Other winters it was relatively mild and off you went instead on a Made in Canada CCM bike. The following rhyme might help seniors slide back a bit, perhaps to the early nineteen fifties.
In Greater Vancouver, we’ve been resigned to that mild norm. It’s a far cry from BC towns in the interior or up north. What a difference from places like Edmonton or Winnipeg. We’re used to winter months where climate can often swing back and forth in a blink of an eye. Yet for some of us who grew up as kids on the west coast remember the wonders of a nostalgic winter event, the snow fell so hard, schools were closed and off we went on our wooden sleds in total abandon and freedom.
